I just purchased a used Mark V 510. I think it was a very good deal as I have been looking for awhile on Craigslist. Included bandsaw, and jointer. The headstock was taken apart from previous owner and "re done". The shopsmith has virtually no rust anywhere and slides easily on the rails. Most I have looked at were pitted.

My question is:
How is the table saw guards put into place. Everything I see on youtube describes different set ups for ripping or some other function but not just the overall set up. Guards and all accessories when purchased were in boxes.

I have bought the book "Power Tool Woodworking for Everyone" hoping that would detail these steps.

Any info would be appreciated..

It would be a good idea to post some photos to help people see what you have and then tell you what you need to do to get the saw blade guards on correctly.

The 510 lower saw guard mounts to the end of the quill housing and secured there by a collar on the guard. The upper guard mounts through the table insert to the lower guard with the red or black colored t-handled knob (210 below).

And it is usually easier to put the saw blade with arbor in the lower guard before you mount them both on the Shopsmith.

If this is your first experience with this group I can assure you, being a relative newbie myself, these folks can solve any problems or concerns you have about your MarkV. No problem is too big, too small or too silly. All you have to do is ask.

Where are you located ? Pictures always help. Maybe we have someone close to you that can show you the setup. As stated you have made 3 good decisions so far. First buying a shopsmith, second buying the book and third joining this group. You are on your way. Simply ask and you will have all the help you need !

I will try and post pictures. I am located in Puyallup, WA.
