I have 1954 mark 5 with a magna dado,proper set up and adjustment eludes me anyone have the needed information on this dinosaur.

You are likely missing the square shanked adjusting 'tool'.

The arbor nut is loosened(so the two halves can rotate independently from each other), then use the 'tool' to turn the adjusting 'screw'. Retighten arbor nut.

I have the adjusting tool ,tried to set it on the same letter on both sides failed. letters are from a to z but i am puzzled where to set them for what.

thanks for the vintage machine link i get it. mine must be slightly older because the adjusters are square drive and it doesnt have nyloc screws but two pins driven from the back with finish nail.

I doubt yours is older than a Yuba vintage. You cannot tell a nylok screw without removing it. It merely has a nylon nubbin near the end of the threads.

When setting the cut width, the scale index aligns only with one side. Opposite sides indicate from opposite directions from '0'. The indication should only be the same AT '0'.

I have never seen one that had anything other than a square adjusting tool.

The 'pins' are something 'new' to me. Rivets? Might indicate a 'newer' version.

checked with my dad in fla those are metal pins with a head and a scratched or burred side to keep them snug when tapped in on only the first of them made.he is a retired tool&die man. his ss is 30years newer than mine.

When I got home this evening, I checked out the Magna wobble dado that I got along with my 1952 10ER. Most of the accessories were still in their original boxes, and the dado box appeared to be the same vintage as all the others. So I've gotta believe that it is an old one. I've never used it, as I already had a modern dado stack, and the Magna still needs an hour or two in an Evaporust bath.

Anyhoo, mine has the hex drive on the pinions, not a square drive. Which makes me think that the square drives are newer.

Also of interest, the blade is clearly stamped as being manufactured by Henry Disston & Sons.

Interesting! Mine has the square drive. Mine was purchased in 1962(3?). Magna American.
