Waytube cutting lesson

Chopped 18 inches off the way tubes with a sawzall as I want it for the band saw and disc sander station, no problems. got it all back together mounted the band saw , disc sander and went to drop table top back into carriage and
and table catches on disc sander by about an inch. debated between cutting 16 or 18 inches off and of course I went with 18.

on the positive side I have a little room to work with but since I only have one set of hands I am going to take everything back off and make adjustment to way tubes..don't have much wiggle room but it looks like enough. Guess I should have thought of this when I re-assembled SS.

The lower tubes are longer than the upper ones. When properly adjusted, the headstock will locate properly on the stand .

Or are the upper tubes longer? Having a premature senior moment!

Are you old enough to be declaring a Senior Moment? You were correct to start with.

When cutting the tubes you also need to be aware that the Way Tubes (uppers) are of different quality than the Bench Tubes (lowers). The Bench Tubes, after they gain some age, don't shine up as well as the Way Tubes.

The lower tubes are 3/4" longer.

It is together and can be used, it was my intention to be able to leave the accessory drive on the band saw when using the disc sander, and just slide the headstock a couple of inches either way. adjusted it out after work this evening and it still hitting on the disc, and now it is not seating well on the lock-under accessory end.

Loosen the set screws on both ends, upper and lower. Then lock the headstock down . With the set screws slightly loose you can tweak things a bit and then tighten the set screws on the way tubes. Should be good to go...
