A few questions:
1) Where should the speed dial be set for the shopsmith mounted planer for best results.
2) Can i use Johnson paste wax on the bed of the planer, like I do on all the bare metal parts on the shopsmith?
3) Anybody have a PDF you can send me of the manual for the planer? I do have one, but it got wet at some point and its like one solid page now, unless someone knows a trick to fix it?

On the plus side, it doesn't look like the planer had much use. The blades were only resharpened once. I think his primary use was the table saw. I got 8 blades with it, and he said they have been sharpened as many as 10 times since he bought the shopsmith in 1978.

P to T. Wider boards, slower. Deeper cut slower. Harder wood, slower.

The 1 1/8 hp shopsmith motor is a bit under powered, but slower speeds provide greater torque. It is the lack of motor power that limits the speed. A Power Pro would likely fly at 5000 rpm.

P.S. I strongly recommend getting the manual. It is 70+ pages for $10.

Thanks. I have always been fine with underpowered stuff. I think its worth the trade off of the quietness and longevity of induction motors.

For example: I have had a craftsman table saw from the 50s, 3/4hp belt driven, its done everything I have asked of it for 15 years, and the prior owner before me.
