Pro Planer infeed roller height gap

Hi all,

So I was planing some boards last night on my new PP and noticed that it was pulling the wood to the right (outfeed side). I adjusted the springs as the manual states but that didn't seem to help my issue. I raised my the table as high as it would go and noticed that there's a slight gap on the right-hand side of the roller. Meaning the left side is grabbing the material first and applying more pressure - pushing it out of alignment.

I removed the cover, adjusted the springs again and even loosened the rocker arms thinking one was stuck but it wasn't. Even with the adjustment screws removed, there's still a lot of pressure on the left hand side of the roller.

Any ideas why this is happening and what my issue is?

Table height???

This is a bit tricky since it involves adjusting the elevator chain/sprockets. The workpiece is likely to not have parallel faces after planing. Since that is the purpose of the planer, it should be corrected regardless of the feed issue.

All this assumes the cutter blades are adjusted correctly.

Don't mess with the elevator chain/sprockets until you know you have to. I believe that that is a tedious, time consuming job that you want to avoid if you can.

You said you have a feed problem and that you believe the feed rollers are not at the same height across the width of the table. Concentrate on the feed rollers; what is their condition? Are they the old feed rollers or has your planer been upgraded with the new rollers?

PS: You referred to this as your new ProPlaner. Is it new or "new to you". If it is "new", I suggest that you make certain that Shopsmith is aware of your issue.

OK check for equal height at all four corners of the table to the tie rods. If equal, forget the elevator and concentrate on the feed rollers.

Do check a planed workpiece first. Both sides need to be the same thickness.

i.e. check things before acting. However one needs to know the 'things to check. Start with those things that can possibly be causing the 'problem'.

You eliminated the feed roll tension arms. Unless the feed rolls are somehow cocked(not likely) the table is all that is left. Now there may be something broken, but I think you eliminated that also.

Checking the table to tie rod spacing is relatively easy and establishes a good reference for everything else.

Left/right, infeed/outfeed. Which seems to be constantly 'pushing down'? Is it perhaps stuck'?
