Howdy all!

I just recently picked up a used SS. It was my dad's from as far back as I can remember until he passed 2 years ago. He left it for me and haven't had a chance to pick it up until last week. I believe it's a MK V 500 with the 520 upgrade. He has so many doo dads and accessories that went with it. (Some still in the original box never used) I'm not sure where to begin with this thing. I remember watching him work with it and drilling into our heads how dangerous it was. Now I'd like to get started using it.

His wife said that it wasn't working when he passed and that it would need "a belt of some kind I think" He kept all the manuals but not in any particular filing order. I'm fairly sure I could do what it takes to get her going again. Any tips or advice on how to best go about repairing/calibrating her? I've seen the blown apart diagrams of the headstock but don't know exactly what to look for in terms of pieces needing to be replaced.

Any help is appreciated! Thanks in advance. Looking forward to carrying on with his obsession.

You're in the right place. I am relatively new to the inner working of the Mark V, but I'm sure someone will point you in the right direction by the end of the day. I can tell you this. Pictures go a long way. Post pictures of your SS, and any "doo dads and accessories" that are a mystery to you, and we can identify them and point you to text or video on their use.

Well talked to his wife some more today. Turns out that the smith underwent maintenence from a shopsmith certified "resaler"? Same people that sold him the bandsaw updates in 2006. She told me that it was running until it "broke down" in 2011. Hoping that the maintenance done back then was thorough. I'll post a pic of the sales receipt for the mtc. tomorrow.
