What would you experts suggest for a brass to wood glue. I have a walking cane with a brass knob on top that I want to attach to a wooden shaft. I have no clue as to how to attach it. It is a semi slip fit, not tight but not loosy goosy.

Any advice would be appreciated!

I agree epoxy is probably your only choice. Is there a groove or depression on the knob to help the epoxy maintain a hold. If not you might consider creating one.

3M Scotch-Weld 2216 two part epoxy. It is expensive. A 2oz set (2oz of each part) is $50-$55. It will not come apart. It is really good stuff.

FWIW, one thing to remember the longer the cure time of any given two part epoxy generally the stronger the bond.

Any chance that you can tap the brass knob? A thread would give epoxy more surface area on which to bond, and plenty of "tooth". Then even if the glue-brass bond fails, the knob will merely unscrew, and can be easily retightened.

Alternatively, you could thread the knob, build the shaft up with a few wraps of tape, and screw it together for a nice tight fit.

OK all, thanks. I will use an epoxy of some kind. I used JB Weld for many years in the mechanic hobby/trade and I know epoxy will hold tight on many things. I will do some research and try something. Dennis/masonsailor2, I had thought about the thread/groove thing. My cane shaft is already machined for a nice fit, but no more meat for threads. I will slightly "groove" it for more surface area. I will let everyone know how it works ....

I make canes. To attach metal handles or brass tips, I always use epoxy. None of them have come apart yet and they get a lot of stress in use.

I have used a 2 part 5 minute epoxy to glue brass to wood 2 years ago and it is still holdiong strong
