Purchased a used Shopsmith and this came with it. Lots of arbors that I know about but this thing has puzzled me. Possibly a 1/4 router chuck? Has a 5/8" bore hole in one in and a 1/4" hole in the other both with single set screws.

I also have 2 slots in my table which somewhere on the forum there was a post about the 2 slotted table. Guess I'll figure out if that is handy soon.

My guess would ge a router chuck also. My guess is that it was home made. I have never seen a SS router chuck that looked like that.

If your SS is a model 500 then yes they were made a one point with two slots in the table.

Yes it is a 500 but a Dec 1978 model, so it seems strange that the older table is on this one. The table is very nice though, flat, even with the extra slot.

You might be right about the home made chuck, the guy I purchased this one from said there was a home made something in the box of stuff.

Have to agree on what appears to be a router chuck, it doesn't look like a shopsmith version. It could also be for pen turning. I use a shopsmith version to hold a mandrel for turning.

My 1976 shopsmith which I got new has the dual slots. Not sure what year they disappeared but I also have a 1979 model that doesn't have the extra slot but it came to me used so I'm not sure if it came that way(not for sure anyway).
