New ShopSmith 530

Thought I would start a thread If Shopsmith were to design a new model 530 Mark V what would you add/remover or what ever. Practical ideas or just plain crazy. Let’s have some fun with this.

I would add
- A rpm meter
-A foot operated quill advance.

Full size infeed/outfeed tables:D . Ones that work with all accessories, tilt with the main table, are made in America, and don't add to the price of the product (you did say "crazy")

I haven't received my upgrade yet, so I'll be on cloud 9 with the 520.

Aux tables for the front, complete with miter slot, for even wider cross cuts. Working the same way the present back extension does. And a floating table to match.

Corded on/off switch that could be plugged in in place of the normal switch, so you could have it always within reach when working with longer or wider boards.

I would like to see a set of guages that tell you the height of the main table as well as the outfeed tables (to truly keep things level/square). +1 on the RPM meter. Maybe a gadget like a wixey angle guage that sits on the main table could be fun (you cannot use a ShopSmith w/o one in my opinion--thanks Chris at WoodCraft in Indy!!)

A really nice feature would be an "UNDO" button. Or a "Scale to Fit" Function

A reversing switch, and an electronic speed control with RPM gauge and a built in digital angle gauge. I did not realize they had a 220 Volt 60 Hz motor option (until I saw it today in the parts sale) but I don't believe it has more HP. If I were doing a 220 Volt motor it would have more HP, I don't need it but it would silence many of the critiques and I would get it because I can.

Electronics are starting to appear on more and more tools, even low priced ones and if I am spending $3-5K I want electronics. To go with the electronics I want a real safety switch with magnetic safety feature, this is so the saw with no start automatically after a power failure. Actuall the safety switch is something I would like to see offered as an upgrade.

1) An automatic on switch for dust collection. Turn the 530 on and the DC kicks on as well. Turn the 530 off and the dc runs for an additional 5 seconds, then powers off.

2) A laser for showing blade cutting position.

3) Color choices other than gray.

A 530 would be backwards compatible- sounds like a Microsoft product...
I would like to see a DC motor control with a LCD digital rpm speed readout. The LCD display would also display rip fence position, table height, and up to 5 user specified settings. The new 530 would have a USB connection and have a three X,Y,Z axis table attachment & do more than a NC machine can do. The 530 would have a table saw attachment which would allow the table to remain flat while the blade is tilted. The 4 HP DC motor would be capable of 50,000 rpm. The 530 would change to from horizontal layout to vertical at the push of a button on the control console (new too).

You forgot the Plasma screen and DVD player so you can watch the Sawdust Session and work along with Nick.
