After my first project posted here being the under Shopsmith cabinet, I still ran into the issue of my bandsaw, belt sander, strip sander, extra tables, and lathe tools not quite finding the "right" home between uses. Often taking up workbench space causing clutter and out-right aggravation.

The solution: The wall mounted "above the Shopsmith" tool shelf. Now this was featured a while ago in some magazine clipping that was with some of the accessories I bought off Craig's list, however they all used the Shopsmith mounting bases. I honestly don't see the point in having wood working tools if you purchase pre-manufactured pieces like this so this is what I did.

I decided to simply grab a piece of laminated MDF 12"x3/4"x6' and drill out the holes to fit my desired accessories. So using my Shopsmith, some forstner bits, a pencil, and a lot of planning, I mapped out my holes to slide in the tools. For the offset tubes (band saw, belt sander, strip sander) I did a slight recessed offset hole in the board as well to better hold It and prevent it from wiggling. I mounted the steel brackets holding the shelf up right under the band saw and belt sander specifically to hold the larger weight.

Overall it came out fantastic and now less clutter in the shop, and there is still room to mount the scroll saw under it while stored, since I like being able to go out and use the scroll saw without having to move it from the wall.
Now with that out of the way I think my next storage project may have to be brackets to hold the main saw table, 6 connecting tubes, and 4 extension supports. Well that and proper spacers for those extension tables, for now its just a few 4x4s stacked up.

Hi Beave! Agree it is a good thing to have an out-of-the-way storage place for the SPTs. Happy this shelf is working for you!

I have a couple questions:
What keeps the strip sander and extension tables from dropping all the way through the holes to the shelf? It kinda looks like they are floating.

Do you have another stool to lift you up to the shelf in order to lift the SPTs out of the shelf holes?

I see Red has an answer, but how do the 4X4s act as stoppers? Can't see them

Take another look at the last pix. The tables are resting on 3 4x4s stacked.

The 4x4s are Between the table top and the shelf. The tables straddle the 4x4s. I will make these into more permanent supports eventually, mainly due to me wanting to get my cedar back.

As for height, it's not bad. It seems higher than it really is. I'm 5'11" and it's not hard yo grab them at all.

I have a similar shelf for my Shopsmith accessories. Mine is just high enough to slide the Shopsmith under it. I made mine out of a 2x10 with holes drilled into it for the accessories.
