There was a big pile of parts with the Model 500 I bought last week. Here are the last two parts I can't identify. Any suggesstions? I could not identify the threads on the smaller part.

I have no clue what these parts are either, but I have an exact pair just like yours that I got with a used ShopSmith. I assumed they went to something else but with two of us having them with a SS that makes me lean toward being something for the SS.

I saw something similar to the small part on eBay and they said it was an adapter for lathe work. I think the external threads are left-handed. Perhaps it fits up on a faceplate. It's small size suggests pen turning to me. I'll hang on to it anyway. You just never know...

Say, we are both in New England...maybe it has something to do with snow removal ? (I'm new to these parts)

Be very very careful about parts on eBay that say they are SS unless it is obvious that it is a SS part. A lot of sellers just buy stuff to part out and sell on eBay and have no idea what they are selling. Just because it came in a box of stuff with a SS doesn't mean it is SS.

Don't know how it would fit a SS. SS face plates have no threaded holes. Also, unless it could be mounted on the center of the face plate which it cannot what use would it be for? If there is no hole in an item that is 5/8" smooth bore with a set screw it will not fit a SS spindle.

Sorry, I wasn't clear. The small part on eBay was not denoted as an SS part but was in a long list of tool parts: Delta, Craftsman, etc. but it was identified as a lathe adapter. I wish I knew how to go back and tag the listing. The milled flats suggest it would be tightened with a wrench. If truly left hand threads, that is similar to SS design as on sawblades arbors, for example. There are internal threDs as well, so something else screws into it. Maybe some day we'll stumble across it but looks like I can run my SS just fine without using it. That makes me feel better.

There is lots more info in my SS manual than the book in the glovebox of my Buick so will be reading it carefully. The Buick is unlikely to cut my finger off! I once met a guy who claimed the power tools never hurt him as long as he was afraid of them. but once he lost that feAr, he got hurt. I'm still timid.
