Large 3-D Cross

This one is 48 inches by 30 inches and will be donated to a new and budding church.
This church is operating out of a school and since the law will not allow them to erect a cross on school property (it is my guess, that this school is no longer, holding classes) they can not do just that.
I will also put a pair of drawer slides on the back of it, along with a corresponding stand, to which to affix the mating drawer slide to.
This is for them to be able to raise and lower the cross.

Update: moving along. The IHS plaque is now built.
Lightly carved, out of Basswood. I used gold model paint, for the letters and tung oil for the surrounding, relief area.
I wanted it to be a subtle reminder and not a bold one.
It has not been attached yet. So please don't scream about the letter 'h' being not plumb... lol!

Thank you, one and all.
I give all my praise, to our creator, for without him giving me my talent, where would I be?
Day two, on its finish. First coat of gloss poly, will be scuffed down with 0000 steel wool, Then second coat will be applied. Once, that is finished drying, I will repeat and then apply, a final coat of satin poly.
Since this cross, will be handled often, its finish must be durable. But also, I want the finish to be deep, in order to show off the different graining patterns of the Doug Fir and southern yellow pine.

Crappy photos, but this cross is finally nearing completion.
Its fully extended height is 72 inches. Tomorrow, I will get much better photos of it and it will likely be taken to Grace Way Church, this weekend.
This cross required to be portable. So, in order to do that, I employed a drawer slide, for it height adjustment and the assembly is 4 parts, base/upright/cross and height adjustment pin (a nail) I choose a nail for two reasons, one is obvious and the other is, nails are very common, if the church looses the nail I supply, it can be easily replaced.
