Nearly done, 8 months late...

My first attempt at kerfing, which then turned to thinning out, still, it was interesting none the less.

Note to self, avoid bending wood forms as one of your first projects, this made my storage cabinet a piece of cake. This is because the entire table apron one solid piece.
It's held in shape with dovetailed cross-braces and slotted holes for mounting the top to accommodate expansion of the solid top (tongue and grooved pieces to make a larger top).

Btw, I now have a biscuit cutter so that will make it immensely easier than a Dado to make that tongue and groove.

Just a few coats of poly now...

Can we have a peek at the underside to see the cross braces?

Here's the underside. My curves are not perfect, but I will do it better next time, plus I need a bigger tub to soak an 8ft long board. Lol.

Half blind dovetails hold it in shape without the need for screwing in from the outside. A simple board to tighten the joint does well this time. Next time I may do dovetails there as well.

Can you use a long piece of plastic DWV pipe to soak the limber?

That's pretty inventive!

I don't think I'd tried kerfing ever since the 1st week with my Mark5 when I was going through some of the instruction-book chapters .

Looks very nice indeed. The curved apron ends might could be smoothed out by adding a kerfed lining at the top and bottom of the apron, glued to the apron, and possibly then adding a partial bottom to help hold the shape. Below is a link showing some kerfed lining for sale by a guitar building material supplier, where they are used to give more surface area to glue the sides to the top and back. In guitar making, a form in the shape of the body of the guitar is used to hold the sides in place while the kerfed lining is added, so you could made a half round form to match the radius of your apron ends to serve the same purpose. Raise the kerfed lining up a little from the bottom edge of the apron to conceal the edge of any thin plywood bottom.

LOL actually her first reaction was it looked like a horse and didn't like it to much, but then the stain went on and assembled and she likes it now. Lol

Its nice having an honest wife, but I also told her after 8 months of work, if you don't like it, you should lie. Lol

Precisely the reason artists and writers don't show off unfinished works.

At least now with it done I can work on my mark v 500 drill press restoration with more space available
