After getting bored cutting squiggly lines, I went looking for a project. This one came from woodgears.ca. http://woodgears.ca/reindeer/scrollsaw.html

I'm just a beginner on the scroll saw and it shows, but at least it worked out.
That's a U.S. quarter it is standing on.

Thanks. My eyes are not so good. Squint a lot. Need "cheaters" but too vain/lazy to get them!

Ruff and crude when I first saw it till you mentioned the quarter, nice, get the cheaters, they wont get any better and stops some of the headaches.

That is pretty slick algale! That had to be tricky. Like JPG said, good eyes (with or without glasses) .....

OUTSTANDING! I need to use a lighted magnifying glass for my chess pieces and most are larger so in theory they should be easier to cut. Sometimes I think I should have one of those full page magnifiers!

Mike you beat me to the punch, I have one about 20$ at most, lights, 2 different x mags that flip up and a loop on the right side to boot. For wood working I have not needed it often, but overall in the shop indispensable, when sharpening chisels, planes ect.

Here are a couple of the pages I scanned from the back to make templates. Kape makes it real easy (the templates that is!). Cut out a piece, fold along the edge and tape to the sides of the piece of the wood. wrap it in packing tape and go for it.
These are scaled to use 1 1/2" square material so I have been using 2x4s cut in half. The beadboard like rounded edges are painful!! Mine are seldom rounded nor even!! I did find that I liked using a small gauge spiral cut blade. My first attempt I think I made 30 plus pawns to get 16 which looked similar enough to set in a row!


I'll take a picture of the set I made for my nephews a couple years back when I am there for Christmas.

I've not tried to get adventurous yet to make some of the more sophisticated sets which require numerous drill throughs, but will try one this summer like this which is include in the book My guess is that when I'm finished they will look like the aftermath of the 1906 earthquake
