Miter Gauge Angle Jig

I thought this jig would work quite nicely for the standard Shopsmith miter gauge. Just remember to zero your Wixey or other angle cube on the reference surface.

Looks like a good idea. I will have to try it. It will work if the table is aligned to the sawblade at a true 90 degrees. Then the miter slot in the fixture has to be exactly perpendicular to the table. I will try it as soon as I get back to some segmented lathe work.

Agree, Al! - But I still prefer the standard Shopsmith miter gauge. Reading the vernier scale (after it is properly set to zero) works every time!

Challenge: 1) Zero the vernier on the miter gauge.
2) set a degree - any degree
3) confirm the angle using your Wixey.

Careful though, this will make you wonder why you spend $ on the modern devices.

Use of a vernier was learned on a slide rule, then used on the old style caliper.

I have two of the wixey products and am very satisfied. I have their digital square which I use constantly. It is magnetic and works extremely well for checking the miter bar or anything else. I take it with me whenever I am buying a tool that involves being at a set angle ( framing square, combo square etc). Because of the magnets you can set it on the blade and the other arm on the miter gauge for quick checks. On the one you have in the link it looks like you have to go through a few more girations. The advantage to the digital square is you are measuring directly to the blade and not the miter slot.

Remember - if this jig is not already perfectly perpendicular, it needs to be zeroed then the needed readings and settings made.

The jig appears as though it would be convenient to have but in lieu of having one, I simply clamp the miter bar into a workbench vise, zero the miter bar and go from there.
