Hope this is not too boring. While chasing a squirrel in my attic, I noticed a black plastic bag in the far reaches of the attic. Opened it up to my surprise was the first attempt to make anything on my brand new 1963 Shopsmith. I had to try out the new "Crafstman" dado blades on something.

I have to admit not too much of an effort but better than nothing. I thought this chess-checker board was long gone.

I think you did quite well on it.

I assume the disk sander came in quite handy.

I think you should refinish it and proudly display it(and use it of course).

Did you get the fuzzy tailed rat?

Really nice, Don! Love the tight fitting squares on the top and the half lap joints on the base. Also outstanding are the tight fitting drawers.

Don't know why it would need re-finishing. I like the looks of it, "as is"!

Did you finish with a clear coat?

Only thing I could suggest is to put pull knobs on the drawers. But tht is a personal thing.

Did you buy a live trap? That's the only way I can catch them.

I have put my order in, check has cleared, and I'm waiting for my SS. I hope my first project comes out that well.

JPG is right. the poor thing doesn't have any finish on it. I never finished it. That's reason for no pulls. The drawers can be pushed or pulled to either side.

Back to the squirrel, I finally had to call a pest guy. he installed a cage like thing at the entry hole that allowed the sucker to get out but not get back in. It had a swinging gate in the tube like wire cage. I watched the sucker try his best to get back in for 3 or 4 days, satisfied that there were no more in the attic, sealed the hole with 3/4" material covered with wire mesh. He finally gave up. I think he may have seen me cleaning my Winchester 52 with the Unertl scope.

I honestly had no idea the chest was still around. May finish it and give to someone who plays chess or checkers.

No one will believe this today. I graduated from High School in 1965 from Stroud Union HS in Stroudsburg PA. We had a rifle club for .22 match target shooting and actually went to competitions. It was in the basement of the SCHOOL. Can anyone imagine that today? Guns in schools even if they are carried by security guards.

The school owned the guns we shot. The instructor had a high end target gun that he would let us shoot on occasion. It was not a Winchester I don't think. As I remember it was a Springfield with a huge diameter barrel. There was no clip. You loaded the cartridge one round at a time.
