I just purchased a Mark 510 locally in excellent condition and am enjoying the posts from other newbies and advice from the veterans. I have not even used my new toy and already thinking about upgrading it to a double-tilt.
Owning a Shopsmith has been one of my dreams and I am glad to have finally acquired one. I am looking forward to starting my first woodworking project and many years of enjoying my Shopsmith.

Think about that before you do it. What will double tilt do for you as long as you have the 510?

By my way of thinking, the double tilt has very little to offer until you pair it with a PowerPro.

Thank you for the advice, Dusty. My thought was that lifting the head for a drill press would be easier due to my arthritic condition.

If going into the drill press mode is your major issue, you should think seriously about getting the lift assist kit.

If you have room you can also get a second SS.
That way the second one can be in the drill press mode.
I have a SS 510 and Mark 5. the Mark is always in the drill press mode.
That way I can store my belt sander, jig saw, jointer, lathe tools and band saw on the Mark 5.

Welcome and enjoy, I agree get another for a DP and can make the rails into a shorty or mini. OR go all out and join the elite club, having a ER 10 with a Variable Speed Changer, best DP or lathe around.

I use my 500 for the band saw horizontal boring and sanding. I have 3 model 10's which are dedicated drill presses. Another model 10 for lathe.

When you find another Mark or model 10 which is reasonable for you, buy it and keep either one in the drill press mode.

Enjoy your "new" Shopsmith. Now, start the motor turning and start making sawdust. It is one of the most enjoyable hobbies you can have. Your Shopsmith was made to cut wood. Don't disappoint it by letting it sit unused.
