Hello all. New to shopsmiths and to this forum...and when I say new, I mean I didn't know what a shopsmith was until my future bro in law asked me did I want a free mark 7. Did some research and decided I would take it. Need to drive to MI to pick it up..have determined that it would fit in my RAV 4, but I'd have to remove the legs? Have read posts here about breaking down the machine, but only for the mark V...could someone tell me exactly how to take apart the 7 for transport...and w/pics if possible? Thanx in advance.

Welcome, and fear not, many very knowledgeable people here to help you out, as they have me on numerous occasions.

Not much disassembly should be required ... mainly removing the legs. And of course the main table, and any auxiliary table or lathe tailstock. If you don't have to remove the headstock or table carriage due to size or weight constraints, it shouldn't be tough at all. Suggest taking weight off of legs using sawhorses or something similar under the bench tubes.

Here's a link to exploded view of a Mark V, which should be pretty much the same except the headstock will be different.

The Shopsmith website has tons of information available, so study up as much as you can and you will be amazed how quickly you will come to appreciate its versatility.

Which MK "7" is it? The MK VII from the 60's or the current MK 7.

Then it would be the same as for a Mark V. Here is a video of loading into a van with 1 person. https://youtu.be/GZf-ubXKClg For a Rav4 I'm thinking you will have to remove the legs. You might want some plywood or long boards in your bed to slide along so as not to damage upholstery. I would position your Mark 7 the same as in the video. Lift the end closest to the tailgate opening, put a saw horse or something under the tubes to lift off the ground and remove that leg. Slide that end of the Mark 7 in and remove the other leg and continue the slide in.

Very true! My brother in law will do anything for you "for a dollar". LOL After about 5 years though it has finally gotten to the point where it's free(for me).
