Can anyone tell me what the 2 elongated slots on the flanged sides of the biscuit joiner are used for?

do you have a picture ? The blade exits a log slot when the springs are depressed .

I'd have to go check but I don't recall any such slots on mine???

Well it looks there is a new version of the tool.

So I will not have any answers but perhaps someone with the new one can check the manual, perhaps that is better then guessing.

Just a guess - Since there is no mention of using the slots in the booklet provided with the joiner, I'm guessing you could position the table so you could use screws & T-nuts in a table slot to lock it down & add support - or to keep the table surface tight against the bottom of the joiner. This would prevent the table from drifting down from the joiner bottom and to make sure the slot vertical position in the edge of boards is consistent. The problem is that locking the joiner to the table only works for 1 vertical position unless you shim it.

As long as everything is locked solid, it seems redundant. I use the slots as a convenient way to mount the joiner on a couple of screws when I'm not using it. The earlier biscuit joiner didn't have slots. Guess someone had a "bright idea" along the way.

I wasn't able to use the table on the bed build , seems to center the slot in the stock I had to raise the head up a 1/8 inch or so.

I think they are just a way for added support. I agree I’m not sure why it would need it. I have two of them I have never used so no experience with them at all. They came with two of the used machines I acquired. I use a hand held one which is a little more versatile.
