A Simple Index Wheel

This is my version of a index wheel for the Mark V. It does not require any modification to the Mark V and can be attached or removed in a few seconds from the chuck and the Mark V. It is constructed from a salvaged aluminum road sign and some metal I had about my shop. Dusty got me started thinking about this project and as with his way of thinking I used what I had.
Any comments are appreciated.

Holy Cow!!!
and you puched the number on the aluminum. Geez I wish. Very nice looking and no modification to the SS!!!.. Well done

I think it looks good enough to sell!

I know this is going to be a really dumb question and I've seen the indexing wheel mentioned before in this forum. What is the indexing wheel used for?

Pat,
It is useful for performing some operation at evenly spaced intervals on your work. Flutes on columns or teeth on clock gears for example.

Looks like a good design. I'm not sure the wing nut is really necessary and it will likely be a source of irritation when dividing something into 48 segments. Where did you get the mounting ring for the block? What do you plan to use this for?

Nice job. Very nice.
Now, tell me how you went about laying out the hole centers. They appear to be very precisely located.
I don't have any aluminum scrap like that. I'll have to go out and find a road sign....in salvage/scrap somewhere.

Looks like a great job, but I am like Shydragon I would not know what to do with it.
Does that wing nut spin around?

This is my first attempt at designing a index wheel system for the SS and when I finish the router attachment that goes with it I may take my drawings to a machine shop for real pros to fabricate it if there is enough interest.
