What is this tool for?

New Forum User here....

I found this adapter in the parts I acquired when I purchased a used ShopSmith Mark V 510.

Does anyone know what this tool is for?

It clearly fits on the 5/8 spindle shaft but what is it for?

TIA

Cheechako,

Welcome to the Shopsmith Forum.

As JPG said it a 5/8" Saw Blade Arbor. It allows you to use Saw Blades from other manufacturers that have a 5/8" Arbor hole as opposed to the 1-1/4" Arbor Shopsmith Saw Blades. It is one of many Arbors that have been available over the years to use on the Shopsmith tools. The pictures below show the different Arbors and yours is the one on the lower right in the first picture.

There are other Spindles (Shaping) and Chucks (Router, Drill) available for the Shopsmith tools.

Thanks. I had no idea this was a saw arbor. That also explains why there is a this big honkin' wrench in the parts box.

Appreciate the guidance. Thanks again.

No? I bought my circa 2005 520 used, but one of those was included with the accessories.

If you search for "Arbor Wrench" on the improved SS website you get 59 matching products. But they do include that one on the second page: https://www.shopsmith.com/product-page/universal-wrench

I'm reminded of searching on Amazon. The more specific I am, the worse the results.

It ain't about Amazon. It is about the idiots that think they know a better way than ONLY looking for what you explicitly specify.

Try searching for a 7/16-20 tap. Ya get everything except.

Oh and that top of the page crap that somebody paid to get in the way of a straight answer.

Yeah, that is exactly what my SS arbor wrenches look like. One I got new from SS when I bought my 510 and I bought a 2nd one a few years ago. I prefer wrangling with saw arbors off the Mark V so a 2nd wrench is A LOT easier for me. Both look identical even though it had been a couple decades since I bought my 510.

JPG,

No worries. Do you have a different looking arbor wrench that you got from SS? Just curious if the origin of these changed over time.
