clogged DC6000

clogged DC6000
Ever since I updated my old dust collector to the DC6000, the inlet clogs whenever I hook it up to my Pro Planer. Happens even when I run the planer at extremely small cuts and at the slowest speed. You can see from one of the pictures how small the shavings are. I took the 3 port shroud off to take these pix. I was amazed the anemometer showed around 75 mph air speed at the undivided port. Any body else have this problem and how do you deal with it?

I don't have a SS dust collector, but instead a Delta. But with the jointer and my (non-SS) planer I had the same problem until I added a separator upstream of the collector. It seems to be a universal problem.

I have the DC6000 attached to a Dewalt 7354 w/Sheilix head. It has never clogged up.

Wouldn't putting a Dust Deputy, or similar, cyclone in front of the DC-6000 be a more economical solution than going for the helical head on your planer as a solution? Just wondering...

FWIW, I don't have any issues with the DC-6000 combined with the standard (3 blade head) DeWalt 735 Planer with 2.5" connections. After thinking about your post, my guess would be that the biggest difference is that the DW735 has it's own blower that greatly increases air flow to the DC.
I have the DIY version of the DC-6000. IIRC the fan assembly input uses a standard 4" coupler between the inlet and the 3 X 2.5" manifold. Therefore I've always thought you can directly mount a 4" hose if you leave the manifold off, though I have yet to test this. If adding a chip separator, I think it would be wise to consider both 2.5" and 4" versions.
Your 75 MPH anemometer measurement seems to more or less validate the 600 CFM claims. Though I seriously doubt the systems ability to get close to this with the manifold in place. I don't recall seeing anything compelling showing what the system will do through the manifold in its various configurations of blocked and open ports. And I do recall seeing some compelling results from RFGuy when he tested this on a DC-3300, and the manifold did not perform well. The manifold is unchanged going to the DC-6000. I'm skeptical of any assertion that the DC-6000 makes 200 CFM per port unless I see test results proving this. The DC-6000 is clearly an improvement, so a 2.5" separator that performs well on the DC-3300 ought to perform well on the DC-6000.
I strongly considered removing that intake grate on mine at one point. I used to use the DC-3300 with a floor tool, but the DC-6000 clogs on large cottonwood leaves that I frequently find in my garage shop.

Stated another way, based on very limited data from testing Dusty shared before, the DC-6000 can achieve around 200CFM into 1 port (other 2 ports closed). Once you start to open additional ports/inlets the DC-6000 performance drops precipitously on each individual port according to Dusty's data. Overall performance of the DC-6000 is still better than the DC-3300, but if you expected to connect multiple tools simultaneously to multiple DC-6000 ports you will be disappointed in the performance. Shopsmith claimed that the DC-6000 would maintain 200CFM on each of the 3 ports of the manifold when all were in use, i.e. 600CFM total, but this is not correct based on the limited test data that we have. There is a penalty for using more than one port on the manifold at the same time. Unrelated to this, I don't understand what is being reported on this thread showing 75mph, which would be 6600ft/min airspeed. Not going to calculate it into CFM for you because I don't trust the reading. That particular brand of anemometer shown, the BT-100 has a rated windspeed range of 0.67 MIN to 67.1mph MAX. Anything over 67.1mph is off scale and/or a meter error. It is possible that this particular DC-6000 on this thread is very high performance, i.e. higher performing than Dusty's converted DC-3300. So, I am not discounting what is being reported, but rather saying I don't know how to interpret it since the measurement setup is unknown and the picture is zoomed in and etc. Honestly, we are at the limits of what can easily be measured by the average woodworker using a cheap off-the-shelf anemometer in their shops. We would really need to switch measurement type to an anemometer with a pitot tube for sampling inside the duct at these high airspeeds IMHO.
