Starting a new thread for a bearing press discussion.

Russ - what kind of press did you buy and are you happy with it? I'm thinking about getting one and would appreciate any recommendations you or others could give.

I have a 12 ton press similar to the one below from Harbor Freight. It works well for removing and installing bearings. I have a collection of different "plates" to use for different diameter shafts. 12 tons is overkill for removing and installing the bearings but I like the range of adjustments of the cross bar and the sturdiness of the press.

Thanks Russ. I'll have to think about that some more before I pull the trigger. I'm rapidly running out of floor space in my shop!

Harbor Freight has a Bearing Separator and puller set that I have seen referenced a number of times on these forums as being successfully used to replace the bearings in a Shopsmith.
