Then just watch this video of a 12 year old boy showing how he turns a pen. I just wish all kids had his outlook on life. He makes me feel totally inadequate when it comes to pen turning...

After watching this I think I should just give all my wood shop tools away. This young man is just to much....He has great talent.

Why did he cut the board twice? Why not just take the couple inches off the first time?

i wish all kids (including myself when i was a kid ofcourse) had access to a shop like that! great video! i may even try the veneer thing he did after all my stuff from psi gets here! 10/10!

Thanks for sharing the video. Someone has a nice shop and lots of equipment(much bigger and more room than what I have) and definitely thinks outside the box with the idea for the design of the pen. Maybe this young man will be a future woodworking celebrity we will see on television or media showings.

I can't help but envy his tutor. Assuming it's his dad, he is a lucky man.
Today my wife took out for a birthday lunch. The restaurant owner came by our table with a nice birthday wish. Then commented about a neighbor who had stopped by with her grandsons the day after I invited both boys to spend time in my shop learning to turn pens. These kids were showing the "Pens they had made with their own hands." The lady in the restaurant wanted to know if that was the only way she could get one of my pens. I was thrilled she wanted one and ecstatic to hear how thrilled those kids were by their wood turning experience.
Wouldn't it be neat if everyone on this forum could reach out to just one kid and give them that sort of confidence builder?!

I think what I am seeing as to why he cut the board twice. The first cut was to remove the wayne and true the board. I think the power of camera is the fact that he can dry the wood so quickly. It is sort of like watching the cooking shows on The Food Network...of maybe Norm so quickly building a project.

I like the way he added the inlay. I didn't see him premark it. It must of been another one of those camera tricks...
