First I would like to say that I am glad to be here and am sure that I have come to the right place.

I recently purchased a SS from Craigslist, got what I believe is a great deal. It has a Mark VII bottom and a Mark V headstock and lots of accessories. I just had the headstock rebuilt and the guy rebuilding it said "The headstock needs surprisingly little for its age. It appears barely used and stored well. It is a 1989 unit so it is about 20 years old now. "

I have been looking for accessories, mainly the 5/8” Saw Blade Arbor located here http://www.shopsmith.com/ownersite/catalog/ms_molderdadoarbor.htm It came with the 1 1/4" Arbor.

Finally my question: It has 2 arbor parts listed. one for the 500 model and one for the 505, 510, and 520. In my situation, how would I know which one to get? What is the difference? Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Send a picture of your headstock. There are some visual clues that might help the members answer your questions.

Other wise we'll have to ask you to tear it down into little pieces and put it back together. We'll find all the necessary clues for certain that way.

1989, In shopsmith years that is a young one. Could say it's just a kid.

Wow, it's nice to nice to know I'm still young! I hope to have many years of use out of it.

The two clues I see are the rough gray finish and the toggle on/off switch. Then there is the dead give away. The data code 050389. Your machine was manufactured May 3, 1989. It is just a young pup (the head stock that is).

The base is another story and I'll have to let the Mark VII experts take over there. It has the larger (1 1/8 HP) motor, I would say a poly-V belt (drive system) and a "B" Headstock.

To get more answers - you gotta tell us something. What part of this great country do you live in. Please consider filling out your profile - at least the geographic data and general background.

BTW - nice photos that will be even nicer when you finish cleaning the rust from those tubes. Just kidding. Nice machine..

I updated my profile. Great state of Texas. Best country in the world. I think I got most of it. If I missed something let me know.

I busted my A$$ on the upper way tubes, the lower tubes are another thing....I rebuilt and waxed every component I have. Helps me learn and understand how it works :-)

I still don't get the 500, 505, 510, 520 thing.....

It looks like the tail-stock and the tool rest are Mark VII. It appears that They also switched the carriage and so that requires the table also be Mark V. I see the table upside down in the background and it looks like the 500 table.
I put a Mark V table on my FrankenSmith and was thinking about converting it to a 510 table and carriage but then I found a parts Mark VII with a good table.
