Bandsaw burns wood

Got this older bandsaw last summer and notice that I'm burning the wood when I saw. What am I doing wrong?

What kind of wood? What speed are you running the bandsaw at (assuming it is a SS bandsaw)? Are you cutting curves, or straight cuts/resawing? Is the blade new?

Is the blade sharp? What type of cut is it burning?

3/4 plywood (don't know what type), I am using my SS bandsaw, I don't know the age of the blade (bought the BS used) but the guy who owned it got it from his father-in-law who hardly ever used it. Burns both cutting straight and curves. Tonight I tried it on "J" speed and I've tried it on "Saw" and still get the burning. It's got the smoky smell and the tell tale burn on the wood. Between the screetch of the beraring and the burning I might need a "TuneUp"!!

You're running your Bandsaw much too fast. I run mine no higher than "C" and usually on "A" or "B".
Other than than that, it sounds like you have a dull blade.

Max speed re ss is "D". The 'saw' on the speed dial refers to the table saw! "J" is about twice as fast as "D"! "S" is more than three times as fast as "D". "D" is for smaller blades only. Larger blades should be run slower!

In addition to the speed, perhaps the blade you are using is dirty, and also is dull and also lost the set of the teeth. Helpful rules for using the bandsaw can probably be found on a printed sheet inside the face cover.

It is highly recommended that you read the manual and all other operating instructions PRIOR to using machines like this. When you run the bandsaw at the speed originally selected ("J"), you were running way too fast and you were begging for an unwanted incident to occur.
That having been said, welcome back to the forum puttn, it has been a while.
I assume you have your
previous bandsaw problem (power problem) resolved!

I think you're right about reviewing the manual! Hi Dusty, been a while. long winter and using Festool mostly but got the SS set up in line with my Festool tables so now I can utilize the SS a lot more.
I did get the power problem solved.
Thanks for the help guys...next adventure is the sander and conical sander...any precautions there!?
