Gluing standard sandpaper sheets to 12" round metal sanding disk

Watched one on the sawdust sessions on sharpening lathe chiselsand Nick showed his 12" round metal sanding disk with a sheet of standard 9x11 sandpaper glued to it. Although it reduces the effective sanding zone to 9" diameter circle, it's still a good way to use standard sandpaper in the event that 12" in the grit you need isn't readily available. Thought I'd pass this along in the event that you haven't considered it.

Back in the dark ages before they came out with peel'n'stick and velcro, all sanding discs were applied with "sanding disc adhesive" 3M made it and it was a guey semi-liquid that came in a flat can. You could change discs about ten times before you had to reapply and usually you didn't ruin the piece coming off. I used it for years and thousands of discs. Now it's hard to find the unglued discs and harder to find the gue (not a spelling error) at least for me it is. I now use the peel'n'stick and pay more for less performance. I'm refering to 7" sanding discs mostly that I used on a Makita polisher with a firm foam pad... great sanding performance for large areas like hulls.
