Anyone know of a good quality 6" piano hinge available? I checked Rockler but the smallest piano hinge they sell is ~36".. Woodcraft doesn't even appear to carry any.. I also checked McFeely's in a long shot.. I realize I could probably cut a longer one to size but would prefer not to.. I'll be needing quite a few of these for my current project (4 per build x ~5 copies) -- probably 20 of them..
I did find plastic ones but need metal as a lot of force will be applied to these for my foot slant board. They'll be attached to 3/4" plywood if that matters (non-mortised).

Hi, Rick! Just think - with a 36" piano hinge and a vice and a hack saw, you can quickly make 6ea, 6 inchers. You may be benefited by a small file to smooth the cut off edges.

I've had good luck cutting off these hinges. Plus, the cutoffs are sometimes useful on other projects.

This is also a good way to save $.

Every time I see this thread I picture a 6 inch piano which in turn reminds me of the bar room joke about the 12" pianist.

Try the Lee Valley 160mmx13mm #00D80.69 it may be what you are looking for.

Thanks! I wasn't sure if you could cut them and not have them fall apart.. The Lee Valley item will work as well and is about the same price for the amount I need excluding shipping -- will need to check into that.. Thanks guys!

Cutting them is no problem. I have done it many times. Never had one fall apart.

I am not sure of the quality, but my local home depot carries them. If you want to get really scientific McMaster Carr http://www.mcmaster.com/#piano-hinges/=7ajfyi has several options with load ratings.
