Roughing Gouge sharpening

Time to sharpen the turning tools. Question, my SS roughing gouge came with a rounded tip. The demo guy at Woodcraft prefers a straight across tip, and to date all the YouTube videos I have viewed show this straight configuration.
Should I resurface the roughing gouge to this new angle?

IMHO not unless you are already good with the skew. I like to be able to rotate the round gouge in order to slice.

The 1 inch roughing gouge should have the straight across profile on it. It looks like the new one do now. But it's really up to you.

I also prefer the rounded gouge. I think it is more versatile. Some thing to think about is regrinding a gouge can be difficult if you do not have experience doing it. It is easy to lose the tempered edge of the steel. I have had to buy some new carving chisels as part of that learning curve. If you have not done it before I would suggest buying a new gouge with the flatter end if that is what think you would prefer.
