Little League Baseball Bat Display

A fellow team member at Target has asked my if I could build him a display case for his baseball bat. I agreed it would be a fun project and have just completed the carcass. I am thinking of cutting out two U shaped peices for the bat to sit in when in the display but I am not sure how to secure it so when moving it the bat can't shake loose. Maybe some velcro but that might look tacky. Looking for any ideas. This was his little league bat and has setimental value to him. I would like to build a case that this bat deserves so he can cherish it. Thank you for your ideas.

Well...one way wood be to make two additional "U" shaped peices and put them over the first two. The bat might "rattle around" a bit while traveling, but should stay put in the "brackets".

The U bracket will work well. How about adding foam rubber and felt inside the brackets? That would all the security you need, and also add a classie look to the case.

Another option would be to is to make the mounting brackets like donuts that would slide onto the bat to the appropriate mounting positions, smaller donut near the handle, larger near the bats end. These would look similar to the weighted warm up donuts players use. Then, put a flat on one side of the donut as the mounting side. Then, cut though the donut ABOVE the centerline leaving say 200° of arc. This will allow the donut to capture the bat while appearing as if its the U mount you mention.
