I have a 1990 Power Station Model #555422 with a 1990 Scroll Saw attachment and it came with 5" saw blades. I cannot get them to fit. They do not seem long enough. HOW do you change the blade on this model Model #555220?

I'm not familiar with the 1990 vintage scroll saw. Mine is a 1993. I seem to remember some changes were made to the blade mount around that time, so what I'm suggesting may not directly apply to your saw. That being said, it sounds like you may have omitted releasing the tensioning lever/knob located at the rear of the upper arm. Try this link http://www.shopsmith.com/academy/scroll ... .htm#setup No direct instruction, but you may find it useful.

I have the same saw, only mine is the stand-alone unit and has the blade upgrade kit (555076). Attached is page 8 of the owners manual. It shows how to change the blades.

Your model (555220) is the same as mine (555272) in regard to changing blades. I don't believe it is possible to change the blades unless you release the tension on the blade.

There have been some upgrades to these models but I do not believe they change this function. The one upgrade that might have some effect is the quick release mechanism for the blade which is intended to make blade change quicker. There has been no change that effects the required length of the blade.

I have the quick release upgrade that Dusty is talking about and it makes a world of difference. I went from hardly ever using my scroll saw to using it a lot just because of the difference and time it takes to change the blade. I would recommend that upgrade to everyone.
