After being without my SS for about 4 years, I decided to get another one. I always know where the chuch key and wrenches are. Attach a rare-earth magnet to the chuck key like this:
I also make a magnetic holder on the side of the headstock for the wrench(s)

My magnet is bigger than your magnet...

I stay on the lookout for free old junk speakers to salvage the magnet out of. This one is about 3" and I don't even have to aim. If I get within about 1 1/2" it will grab it.
In any case it sure beats trying to line up with the holes in the leg especially if you have the headstock at the right end of the way tubes.

I always put the key back into the jaws when done and tighten hand tight so it is always with the chuck. Now if I could only find the chuck when I need it......
