Magnetic chuck key holder?

Looking at one of the Sawdust Sessions on table leveling http://www.shopsmithacademy.com/SS_Arch ... _Chuck.htm I noticed that at the 1:34 point, Nick pulls the chuck key off of the side of the headstock. Looks like he's got some kind of magnetic holder there. Any body know how he does that trick?

I did not check the video because I know the headstock is not magnetic. HOWEVER, the motor pan is as is the left hand cover (belt cover). Is it possible that you saw it attached to the left cover?

Yes; it was in drill press mode and he had it up near the "top", which probably is the belt cover....

Al,
A couple dozen rare earth magnets 1/8X1/2 or even larger, are really handy around the shop. My old Sears jointer has a bag hung under it with magnets. Nearly every stationary tool has one or two stuck to it to hold various bits, chuck keys, wrenches, etc.
The control to my Long Ranger wannabe stays put on the metal part of the SS motor casing.

Al,

I use a x1" rare earth magnet to hold both my chuck key and T-handle hex wrench. I keep it on the belt cover. The magnet stays put on the cover, but the key & wrench come off easy enough when I want, but not due to vibration, etc.

Hard drives (at least the older ones) have a couple rare earth magnets as well.
