Toy finishing

Hello all, there is alot of info out there about what to finish toys with. What I have is a couple of simple toys (post pics soon) that I have sanded and rattle canned shelac with, about 3 coats. I steel wooled one a little and it made it alot smoother.
Do I stop where I'm at, or steel wool and spray again? or leave them smooth after the steel wool?:rolleyes:

Three coats and a final steel wooling should be enough.

After sanding the finish with 300, I steel wool with non oiled #0000 then vacuum, the get some Johnson's paste wax on the wool and go over it again.

I'd skip the wax, because it's going to a child.

I'm with the other guys.

I have made a bundle of toys and used different finishes but shellac and a rub down with #oooo steel wool is one of my favourites.

Remember too, mothers will be very concerned for safety for their kids, so things like shellac and others that are edibly safe will be the preferred finish.

Another thing you might want to concider for kids toys is an oil finish that's specifically made for Salad Bowls. It's food safe and would not hurt the kids.

NO FINISH works too.
