How do you adjust the belt on the shop-smith? I am finaly getting around to getting it ready to go and the belt seems really tight. Or maybe its the bearings setting up from lack of use for 15 years? It didn't come with a manual and I dont have the money right now to buy one, but if ifif the need arises I guess Iwill have to get the wife to order one for me.

Well I tore the machine down to the bare case cleaned and checked all the parts. Then I found that the bearings where not turning freely. They where barely turning at all, so I called Shopsmith and new ones are on the way. It only sat for 10 years in a unheated barn never getting used and the guy wonderd way it would not start.

I hope that you are keeping a photo diary of this teardown and rebuild process.
They would make a real interesting post and a personal record of the task.

I wish that I had a camera to take pics of the rebuild. Maybe I can get the father-inlaws camers and take a few shots of it toren down and after pics. It came apart real easy and found lots of nasty grimmy stuff stuck to the inside of the shaft area. Tommrow the bearings should be here and the fun of putting back together again begins.
