Dust collector for table saw

Hi folks, My 57 500 has the upper and lower guards with the dust collector. I am not sure which port to connect the vacuum hose. Help?

Hello,

If you have the latest-style Model 500 guards & collectors, then it's meant for you to be able to connect dust-collection to both ports. One port stays stationary with respect to the machine-base, and one port rides up and down with the worktable height adjustments. I saw this setup working on a few guys' machines. I don't know if any of them tried only one port at a time, but earlier versions of the guard had only the rear-most port.

Should I cap one end if I don't have the hose running to something else?

The jury is still out on this. Some say ya get better air flow when ya have one port connected and another one just open.

I have the best air movement if one port is open all the way and connected to the tool I am using and a second port it 1/2 open. Jim

I can not say one way or another which configuration gives me the best dust collection but I run with the Mark V and a belt sander connected to the dust collector all the time. The third port is usually closed.
