My original posting contained a link that appeared to take you (anyone who clicked it) right into my email browser which seemed to provide general access into my computer.

I changed the link.

They are cool looking and look simple (maybe too simple to get the folks on this forum to buy rather than build).

But a couple of things. First, do my eyes deceive me or is that the drill chuck being used to hold the smaller sanding drums? I thought Shopsmith took the position that was a no-no. Also, is it an optical illusion or is the smaller sanding drum in the bottom right photo being held off center in the chuck??

Maybe that is to illustrate why a drill chuck is prone to mis-centering the drum. Bet power was off for that pix.

So how does SS suggest mounting the smaller sanding drums?

I understand that the drill chuck is not recommended for routing, but sanding tis a less stressful operation.

So is this called OPS?

No, your eyes are not deceiving you. There is a small sanding drum chucked in that arbor. I have not heard Shopsmith make a dissenting statement regarding the use of small sanding drums.

About two years ago, I bought a set of I think four or five sizes from Shopsmith.

Yes, it appears to be off center but I think that is an optical allusion. If not, it was a poorly managed photo shoot.

It looks to me as you see it ...
If we look at the sanding drum package (555155) I do not see how it would mount otherwise except for the largest one .....

I use the 1/4" routing chuck #514632 with the smaller sanders.

I was contemplating using the 1/4 " routing chuck for the smaller sanding drums (#514632). Haven't tried it yet. Think it would work?
