This is a common hint but I was just thinking if I had some other old drill press with a metal top this wouldn't work at all. Plus for the shopsmith AL top and clean up.

I was doing some metal drilling today and then came clean up time. This is my usually way of doing this and I think I have mentioned it before but it works so well, and since some people may have missed it....

Take your magnet, a plastic shopping bag (without holes), put magnet in bag.

Pull bag up over magnet and collect the metal pieces. (To bad this doesn't work for everything, like wood and AL.)

When you are finished simple turn the bag inside out and the metal bits are all now in the bag and you can dispose of them.

Yes it was and it works great. I seldom drill metal in the wood shop and in the farm shop I just drill then brush the chips off on the floor and sweep them up about every 5 years.
