If you know any one having a kitchen done in granite ,, or a contractor you might ask for a sink cut out , then just pay to have it machined ad polished.

Unfortunately a sink cut out will not work. This piece will need to taper from about 2.5” thick down to about 1/2” thick. Sink cut outs are usually less than an inch thick. I am going to a local stone shop today with templates. They said they have the ability to grind the wedge shape. I am just not sure of the price yet. This could get way too expensive.

sounds like it is going to be very heavy . 1.25 thick x sq ft = 18 lbs

It needs to be pretty heavy. Stability on this piece is an issue. It turns out the stone may be problematic. I am having trouble finding a stone company in Vegas that has 3” thick black granite and then there is the problem of them being able to grind it. I am probably going to end up dealing with a stone company in LA that I know can do it. Meanwhile I started on getting some Xmas presents underway. Last minute as usual ! I got a salt and pepper mill done today. I have had the blanks glued up for some time. They are great to use up the little pieces. So next week I will send off the templates for the stone to LA.

This is a project I had to shelve for a while due to lack of a stone cutter. The gentleman I knew for many years in LA died (82) so it has taken a while to find someone who can grind the stone piece. We now have found someone with the necessary machinery to grind and polish a beveled piece of black granite so it was time to bring this project forward. I managed to get the faceted cones and sphere line bored today. It went fairly straightforward using the SS in horizontal boring mode. A true testament to these machines. I bored from each end using extra long 3/8” Brad point bit and they met in the middle so close that very little reaming was even required.
