Weekly Special

Ladies and gentlemen:

The owners page weekly special, which has been the "Aluminum Step Gauge" for the last untold many weeks, has finally been changed to..."Currently no special to display". In addition, the "Tool of the Month" has knot changed lately either, and a check of the e-mail specials today, reveals only a single offer, where as, in the past, there have been multiple offers overlapping each other. I do knot mind receiving the opportunity to get a "good deal" on something, but I get the feeling that something is "a foot". :confused:

If I am not mistaken, not long ago some one was complaining that he was being bombarded by too many specials; two or three times a week he said.

The only problem I have with specials is that they force me to make decisions. I just can't afford to participate in them all.:(

Bombard me! I find it easy to say "no" and just wait for the right "yes" to come up.

I think that most respondants to that thread disagreed with his opinion; I know that I did. As for making the decision to buy or to knot buy; for me, that decision is controlled by two factors. My need for it and the dollar amount that I currently have available for such a purchase.

It is easier for me to make the buy decision than anyone can imagine. I just ask the CFO if I can. If she says yes, I do and you know the rest.

It is all a matter of timing. I'm just lucky that she has her own hobbies and fun things she likes to do.

BTW, previous to the new offerings, the Tool of the Month was the 5' connecting tubes, offered for much longer then 1 month, and the Weekly Special for the last couple of weeks was "Currently no special to display" but before that it was the aluminum depth guage and it was there for many weeks.

I have http://www.shopsmith.net/forums in my favorites and all I have to do is click favorites, click shopsmith forum and I here.

I know the owners page your talking about but I only go there when someone refers to it.

The specials have been stagnant for so long I don't even bother looking anymore. I see the dail caliber and SS mitre guage are now shown as the weekly and monthly special.

I now see the boxes to which you refer. I did not before you pointed me to the "Owner Pages". I hardly ever come thru this page to get to the forum. I have an entry within my list of favorites that takes me directly to the forum and I use that as a matter of habit.... http://www.shopsmith.net/forums

if I don't get in that way, I come in thru

http://www.shopsmith.com/ownersite/ and I then click on "Woodworking Forum from Shopsmith".

Clicking on "Woodworking Forum from Shopsmith" actually invokes the same path http://www.shopsmith.com/ownersite/

Thank you for you guidance. I have obviously missed some of the special offerings because of the shortcuts that I have been employing.

Maybe so. But I probably won't change my habits much. When I want to access the forum, I'll get there the most direct method I know and I suspect that others do the same. That is sort of why there is a "Favorites" list isn't it. Or maybe I'm just too old to learn from my mistakes - after all, I am 70...almost.

Hi dusty,

Please consider this, if you are looking for the most direct route to the forum: I have an icon on my desktop that I double-click. That single action opens Microsoft IE7 at my ShopSmith owners page. Another single click on the link that sends me to this forum is the only other action that I need to take. That is one double-click and one single-click.

Correct me if I am wrong, but to get there using your favorites list, there is more involved: First you have to click somewhere to bring up your browser, then you must click on the favorites button, then you must click on the link that brings you to this forum, after scrolling through your links to locate the right one. Which way seems faster to you?

No, Tim. If it is the Shopsmith icon that you are talking about - I don't believe it works with my configuration any more. I used to have that but after one of my software upgrades, it quit functioning. https://forum.shopsmith.com/viewtopic.php?t=193&highlight=icon

Furthermore, it is two right clicks to the forum if I start from my homepage. One brings down a drop down from which I select the forum and I'm there.

One, two " point and clicks " and I am there.

Most times, I have home page on the left screen and shopsmith.net/forums on the right screen. I then move the mouse to wake up the system and I am there - no clicks.

This is how my system idles.

I usually have the ownersite and the forum open at the same time. I like to have both open so that when ever one of you mention something about a product or a shopsmith session, etc., I can go there without leaving the forum.
