Ed, I created the Joint-Matic auxiliary table when I worked at Shopsmith back in the 90's. Yes, the one I used in the video is new and needs a little fine tuning. The primary purpose of the auxiliary table is to accommodate a bit that would otherwise be unusable on the tool and to move the miter slot, though I didn't need a miter gauge for the project I was making. Does the auxiliary table have any means of aligning/adjusting the miter track to be parallel to the Joint-Matic fence? When using a miter gauge in horizontal table routing, are you normally using both fence and miter gauge? I'm thinking in terms of expanding aux table features to use on a PowerPro and Main table.

The miter gauge can be used on the Joint-Matic, and there is just a tad bit of play between the tee-nuts and the auxiliary table that allows for parallelism. I'm not sure what you mean by using the fence though, because there isn't a fence on the Joint-matic. Scott

Think of the vertical part the router mounts on as 'the base', then the horizontal surface acts as a fence. "normal" rotated 90°.

I got what you were doing, just having a little fun with it. Your videos are great in general and these about the Joint-Matic are especially helpful. People who don't have one of these tools are missing out.

It places a lot of emphasis on where the tool is made, Slovenia or China, and the seemingly contradictory statement that Klein is an American company "keeping manufacturing as close to home as we can." Kind of opens my eyes about Klein, a company whose tools I usually like. Is that really as close to home as this could be made? Both the Bondhus version I prefer and Eklind are made in USA. I don't love or hate tools based on where they are made, but if I don't have much to go on I'd admit that I'd probably choose USA or German to give me the best chance at the quality I'm looking for. But companies that want to do so can effectively manage suppliers wherever they are located.

I will nitpick an error in the ad, as it seems focused on product description error(s) made in other ads. This statement seems to be in error: "BTW, if you are using this tool on your Shopsmith Mark V or Mark 7, please note that there is a built-in storage place on the left hand bench end, on either side of the headrest handle. You know, that lever that you lift so you can raise your Shopsmith into the drill press position." I don't find such a built-in (or lever) on either my Mark 7 or my DT Mark 5. Sellers frequently make mistakes in their product descriptions. Per ebay policy, the sellers are responsible for their product descriptions.

That's my ad and you are correct, there is an error in my mentioning the Mark 7 as having on-board wrench storage. Thanks for reminding me.

Yes, I reached out to Klein and confirmed that the 9" wrench in question is made in Slovenia, though the Amazon listing states "China". There's been a whole conversation about this over on you Youtube Community feed, but here's what I wrote about the eBay ad there, which might shed some light:

"Ok, I've had enough. That eBay seller is back and posting the Klein 5/32" hex wrench for $14.95 + $3.95 S&H. This EXACT same wrench is available from Amazon and though the price fluctuates it's typically available for less than $9.00 with free Prime shipping! Thanks Scott, that put's a different light on it. I knew which seller you were referring to, just from the content. I use a Bondhus 4mm for reasons I went into already on the forum. So far, it fits not only the 4mm places on the PowerPro but is a better fit on every 5/32" fastener I've tried than any 5/32" tool I've tried. I have not tried the Klein. And I'm not objecting to the product, I'm objecting to 'American company...manufacturing as close to home as possible.' I'm sure they have a great legal/political explanation for why it's okay to say this, but it's not okay for this consumer.

I totally get where you are coming from. I just wrapped up a conversation with a coworker about "Greenwashing", in which a company will promote how green their packaging/manufacturing/marketing, etc. is, while their product isn't green at all. One such company was a bathroom chemical company that likes to talk about how they light their factory with power produced from the geothermal heat from a nearby landfill, all the while 100% of their product is a chemical that their customer pours down the drain! In the case of the eBay seller I have been clear that I'm not bothered one bit by retail arbitrage, but they are, in my opinion, taking advantage of my fellow Shopsmith family members! Scott

A short time ago Youtuber Mike Farrington made a bit of a splash with the introduction of his double-sided conical sanding disc. You can see it here: https://youtu.be/b-kXTKVVTL4

My issue with it and other sanding discs that mount on a traditional table saw is the fact that they are spinning at table saw speed, which is somewhere around 4000 RPM. That's super-fast for an abrasive, and can lead to burning and quickly damaged abrasives; but what's a woodworker to do? It turns out that Shopsmith beat this conical disc to market by roughly 55 years when they introduced their original conical sanding disc. In this video, we'll dig into a little bit of history and put the current Shopsmith conical sanding disc to the test on some gnarly wood edges.

As promised here's how I change abrasive discs on the Shopsmith conical sanding disc and how to modify stock abrasive discs to work on your Shopsmith conical disc. I purchased this disc used on eBay and the paper was old and crusty and just didn't want to let go, so heat and solvents were needed. If you swap the abrasives before the adhesive gets old and cured you'll stand a much better chance of a clean removal. There's bound to be a prayer that helps, too.

Thanks. Yes, I filmed this as one long video and decided to break it into two; one covering the abrasives and the other the use of the jig. In doing so I guess I left that info out. If the knives don’t need reshaping I sharpen them with P220 grit Aluminum Oxide. If they have deep nicks or if I am changing the bevel angle I use P150. 150 is the grit Shopsmith recommends, but I suspect that has more to do with it being the finest grit they offer. Scott

Scott - Very informative. With no SS Planer I'm not sure I can rationalize the cost, but this jig is nice. At the beginning you referred to a video on installing/removing jointer knives and said you'd link it. I don't see that link. I know I can find it but you might want to add that where you intended it.(?)

It seems to me that the removable piece that holds the knives down could have been designed so that one side works for SS tapered blades and the other side for the more common un-tapered blades. Never having used the jig, perhaps I'm missing something.(?)
