For reference the ripe berries are black and look like these. I must have eaten at least a 100 on Sunday on my walk. Found a couple more trees along the way so there were plenty. Might go back tomorrow or Friday for more.... I feel bad that I didn't have a container along so I could bring some home for the wife..... maybe she can come along next time and pick her own.

That's one of the things I miss about not living out in the country. I grew up in Eureka, MO and we had dew berries that grew next to the railroad tracks, and there were paw paws in the woods near by. Plus there is all that green foliage we don't have much of here in San Diego, it being a coastal desert. Oh, but we don't have too many mosquitoes either, although a couple seem to always find me in my garage workshop. :D

Neighbor has a mulberry tree ours we’re ripe about a month ago. I usually look like I committed a murder after a session in the mulberry tree with all that red juice splashed on me. My hands stay purple for about a week at the height of the season.

Well it was mulberry Friday for us. We ventured out to do a few things near where we find the berries so despite it being hot a walk was in order. Stopped at 8 trees and I really over did it a bit. I think we have hit the peak so it will be down hill from here until next year. A real banner year anyway and so different then last year. I have never seen as many berries, branches are just loaded.

Blackberries are next. Found a few today but small and way to many seeds at this point. Most of the berries are changed from white to red so one more step to black coming up.

Normally we only feed the birds during the winter months but this year we are keeping one feeder active at least through most of the summer. The unexpected results are a lot of seed husks on our "clothes tree island" blocks.

Just figured out what that is about. The young birds haven't mastered eating sunflower seeds at the feeder and bring them here where they are figuring out how to eat them. If they were to do this at the feeder all the seeds would just end up on the ground. Here they get to take a few shots at it and not loose the seed.

While they are learning to be on their own the mom and dad are still helping out as you can see in the later part of the video.

While out hiking with the grand kids my grand daughter was able to get this picture of a hummingbird moth. We don't see them often so it was a treat today.

I give the kids a time with the camera and you never know what will show up when I view the "film". This was one that I hoped would come out well and it did.

On a family outing today I happen to spot this my second hummingbird moth this year and was able to film it with my phone. These are so cool to watch!!!

That is a wonderful video of such a cool bug. I have never seen one before, but I do remember seeing the tomato caterpillars they come from. When I was growing up in Eureka, Missouri we often found those ugly green caterpillars eating our tomato plants. I never knew they turned into those amazing moths.

And the fishes swam round and round.

Happened upon this today. From a distance I could see the pock marked lake bottom and as I got closer I could see the fishes who were responsible for creating a nice gravel craters.

On Nature shows I have seen ocean fish who did this but not seen it in real life in a fresh water pond. Keep learning things every day.

After reading about the fish behavior I learned a few things. The male actually stays with the eggs until they hatch. No way to know if the behavior was in anticipation or guarding. I did go back a week or so later and there were still a few "nests" active. You can see that here:

Then there was last night when there must have been a meeting scheduled for our back yard. First a cat goes in, then an opossum followed by a skunk. There is actually some time between events but it more fun thinking that they all were going in one direction and then imaging a reason.

On my walk last night I had a personal encounter with a skunk. It hurried across the road as I approached so we were never really that close, maybe 20 feet at the closes. More then likely one that is visiting our house.

Hope you want to see some more skunk videos. It would appear that we have three young skunks coming to visit. They are on their own but might be sticking together some what. In this first video a young skunk appears then seems to find something to eat. At least that is what I think is happening. They eat bugs and grubs so maybe that is what is going on but who knows?? After, it leaves by way of the back yard.

We have several of these plants that the bees just love. The flowers are tiny but that doesn't seem to be an issue. There are tiny bees and all the way up to bumblebees. I've forgotten the name, I think we have a card still in one of the plants so I can look it up tomorrow is someone is interested. This short video was shot on my phone so the quality is what it is.

The bees don't seem to mind when we are near by, even watering the plant. I have to count but I think maybe 5 plants, we lost one over last winter and did not add one like we have been doing each year. Have to see how they do over this winter, we haven't been doing anything to them other then setting them on the ground and hoping for the best.

From last night, an opossum with 8 or 9 joeys in the pouch. No I did not count them, just a typical number off the web. They will spend up to 3 months in the pouch, but we don't know when that counter started. Hope she is able to stay round so we see the little ones at some point.

This fawn still has spots but not for long. A lot of walking and very little animal life to see until this fawn came out of the brush ahead of me and down the trail. Happened to fast to get any picture but then it didn't seem super scared so I got the camera ready and it paid off. It had gone off into the woods but not that far and stopped. Yea it knew I was there but did not bolt off right away. I got several photos and then this short video before it was over. No sign of other deer near by which I found interesting. Was it off on its own or some how gotten separated???
