Re: Link PowerTwist V-Belt Question

I have switched back to using link belts on all my personal reversible Shopsmiths. I like the reduced vibrations and noise in the headstock. I have a few thousand hours using link belts without any problems. The wear on the sheaves were within tolerance for me. I used 36 links on a couple of my Shop...

Re: Bandsaw tire kit

I have installed more than a dozen sets of the Blue Max bandsaw tires. It took me less than 1 minute to install each tire and align it using the included installation tool. No glue was used and comes with a lifetime warranty. These was brought from Ebay seller bandsaw-tire-warehouse . http://www.eba...

Re: quill shaft

Shopsmith offered the 2 bearing quill starting in 1985 with serial #190,000. I find the latest 2 bearing quill from Shopsmith is the only one that I recommend for bowl and lathe work.

Re: quill shaft

Buy the latest Shopsmith double bearing quill. It has larger bearings with the second bearing spaced closer to the front bearing. I found that 20% of the single bearing quills exceed the +-.001 runout along with about 10% of the early two bearing quills. Make sure your quill advance is tightly close...

Re: Help Needed on obtaining drive bearings for a 1954 Greenie

Always use the best bearings available. Cheap bearings are not a bargain. Even the best quality bearings from the likes of Timken/Fafnir are not that expensive IMHO. Replace them once and never have to do it again. I totally agree. I found a higher quality bearing ABEC3 is only about twice the cost...

Re: BILL MAYO INSTRUCTIONS

I found something strange with the six or so MK VII motors I rebuilt. I found that one run winding (3-4 ohms) was connected in parallel to the start winding (6-8 ohms) and the other run winding (3-4 ohms) was used for the start circuit. During the rebuild, I connected the run windings in parallel an...

Hospice Care

I was admitted to In-Home Hospice Care this week since I refused to do the Chemo treatments after much thought. Hospice will handle all my medical needs now. I have less than 6 months due to the Stage IV metastasis liver cancer that has spread to my pancreatic and kidneys. So what I need now is to f...

Re: Need new or replacement for Fox SuperShop 2hp DC motor

You need to determine the voltage and rpm of your motor. I had really good luck with replacing motors on metal lathes with motors from Surplus Center http://www.surpluscenter.com/. You may be able to use a cheaper treadmill motor as most are 90 VDC motors. You need the physical measurements of your ...

Re: Planer Uneven Planing / Synchronization Help

A quick reply. One tooth = .0041667" in height. I rounded off at .004" when doing this adjustment. So you should be within +-.002" at all 4 corners of the table. You have to keep the slack out of the chain when doing this adjustment.
