Re: Great Idea or Just Madness...

I am currently building the drawers. Each of the three cabinets will have four drawers. Two at 4.25" on top, a 6" in the middle, and a 10" on the bottom. The drawers are each about 14" deep except one of the 6" drawers will be extra deep to store lathe chisels. While I am tr...

Re: Great Idea or Just Madness...

As for the fit of the cabinets, I am planning on arranging them at 60 degree angles with a 180 degree "wedge" between each cabinet. I think I should be able to hang both floating tables on the sides of the cabinets. I will have to find efficient ways to use that space. I can build shelves ...

Re: Great Idea or Just Madness...

After a great long time, I finally have an update on this project. It has been dragging on and has been sidelined by other events, but I have been working on it when I can. At this point, I have the base completed and finished with several coats of polyurethane. I got the bottom table installed perm...

Re: 4" lift on a Greenie

On second thought I will need to add more weight. I way overestimated the weight of the 2x4 lumber. I have the pieces cut to rough lengths, but will wait until I get a set of retractable casters before building that part. Then with some rebar and cement, I will get the weight I am looking for, but s...

4" lift on a Greenie

Ever notice how projects lead to projects? I set out to make an awesome Lazy Susan tool/accessory cabinet for my Mk V 520. While planing down the initial pieces for the butcher board tables, my planer broke. I looked on CraigsList for a used planer. I did not find one. I did, however, find a 1956 Gr...

Re: Great Idea or Just Madness...

Alas, I got sidetracked. I am officially blaming the TX heat, but that excuse runs thin in late December. Haha. I got sidetracked when my planer broke. In looking for a replacement on CL, I found a 1956 greenie and that led me down a rabbit hole. The project is waiting patiently, and I have promised...

Re: First bowl on the Mk V

Thanks, RFGuy -

This is my first chuck, on sale this month at ShopSmith. I had contacted Mike Young about which package to choose from and he recommended the ProTek. So far I am thrilled with it, but I have nothing to compare it to.

Re: First bowl on the Mk V

I wasn't sure what my wife might want to use it for, so I used a food safe oil for cutting boards.

Which I found out after I bought it is just mineral oil.....

First bowl on the Mk V

I've had very limited experience in woodturning. I made a few pens and a baseball bat. I wanted to get into bowl turning. I took a bowl turning class at a local WoodCraft store in the spring. I ended up turning my project into a planter by going too deep in the center and poking through. Now that I ...

Re: Gallery of Restorations

I used the paint from ShopSmith. For the speed control I used a polishing compound and a Dremmel tool. This machine did not come with a tailstock (or a 510 carriage for that matter.) I found both on eBay rather easily. Grey to green was pretty simple. When I get my Universal Tool Rest, it will also ...
