Re: Shaper Guard Thumbscrew for Table Mounted Post
Yeah, I though of that too and also a combination of both so the bolt clamps the washer or disc in place.

Re: Shaper Guard Thumbscrew for Table Mounted Post
I'm thinking of putting some kind of metal in the slot to stop the drill bit. Maybe something like a fender washer.

Re: Shaper Guard Thumbscrew for Table Mounted Post
I have two of these, both came from Shopsmith and both have the same problem. One came with the speed increaser, the other with the tenon/mortising jig. But it was a couple of years ago at best, so returning them is not a real option. I never used either one. Looking more carefully, it looks like th...

Re: Shaper Guard Thumbscrew for Table Mounted Post
Original file didn't upload. Here is a photo showing a closeup of the "split" area on my guard. The thumb screw is on the left and the correct one.

Shaper Guard Thumbscrew for Table Mounted Post
The thumbscrew on my shaper dust shield guard (part number 515707) does not go past a fitting right at the split in the metal where it goes over the table mounted post so the screw cannot reach the threads on the other side of the split. I tried forcing it, but the plastic thumb piece started to str...

Re: Did I Damage the Headstock
My arthritis hands no longer command a gorilla grip..
I reinspected the headstock and put the quill back in and it locks just fine. Looks like I dodged that bullet.

Did I Damage the Headstock
I'm in the middle of a total tear down of my 510 to replace all of the bearings and have everything except the quill spring and locking shaft out. I followed the manual step by step but unfortunately did not read ahead and did not see the instruction not to lock the quill after removal. I re-watched...

Another Sealed or Shielded Bearing Question
Does anyone know which bearings in the Mark V were originally shielded and which were sealed? Mine is a 1986 510. Currently the button bearing (which I replaced) and the double bearing quill are shielded, the two drive sleeve bearings and the idler shaft bearing are sealed type. The drive sleeve bea...
