Re: Shopsmith Grey Paint

Hi Thom. How did your paint turn out? I recently received a couple of cans of the pre-2001 paint to repaint my 1982 vintage Mk V. It seems like good paint. It matches the color, covers well and doesn’t run too easily. It does seem to have a higher gloss than the original finish. It is not a big deal...

Re: Bing AI Chat Bot Shopsmith Poem

A limerick from Bing AI:

There once was a man with a Shopsmith
Who loved to make things out of wood
He could saw, drill and sand
With his versatile brand
And his projects were always so good

Bing AI Chat Bot Shopsmith Poem

Haven't posted for a while . . . .Okay . . . I asked the new Bing artificial intelligence chat bot to write a poem about Shopsmith. Here's what its silicon brain came up with: "Here’s a poem about a Shopsmith: A Shopsmith is a woodworker’s dream, It’s a tool that’s built to last, it seems. It’s...

Re: Any Shop-Made Alternatives to the OEM Telescoping Legs?

I just found a thread on this topic started by dgreen 810 back in 2015: viewtopic.php?t=15949
It looks simple and sturdy. I think I'll borrow ideas from that one.

Re: Any Shop-Made Alternatives to the OEM Telescoping Legs?

I abandoned the collapsible SS legs long ago. I use telescopic paint roller handles that I purchase at a paint store. Some have been modified others not. Thanks! I actually have one of those in my basement. I'll have to see if it can be adapted. Do you have a photo of what you are using? I still mi...

Re: Help Me Identify This Miter Gauge

Thanks for the input! There are a couple of the newer style OEM units on eBay right now. I'm still debating on whether or not I really need one though. What I have may be a bit heavy and cumbersome, but it actually does the job quite well.

Any Shop-Made Alternatives to the OEM Telescoping Legs?

My secondhand Mark V 510 came with the pivoting top brackets for the telescoping support legs, but not the legs themselves. I'm thinking about making my own support legs, probably from wood. I'm looking for ideas. I thought there was an old thread on this topic with some photos but I can't find it. ...

Re: Help Me Identify This Miter Gauge

Yes, that Supershop hold down is kinda clumsy. I haven't found the need to use it yet. Understood and agreed. It is stable though. I may be on the lookout for a decent price on a used Shopsmith unit on eBay. So, it's a Shop Smithy Franken Miter. :D Yep. Well said. Perhaps I should at least paint it...

Re: Help Me Identify This Miter Gauge

It's a Fox/ Smithy Supershop miter gauge with a Shopsmith slot bar . My Supershop miter looks the same except it has a 1" wide slot bar. Excellent! Thank you! The upper part definitely looks just like the Supershop miter gauge photos I found on the web, and the 5/8” bar does have extra holes i...

Re: Squealing Noise

I had a similar experience with squealing on a 1982 Mark V I bought last year. In my case it turned out to be a dry drive sleeve bearing. I bought an aftermarket headstock rebuild kit off of eBay and replaced the belts and most of the bearings. I didn't replace the button bearing on the control shea...
