Re: Simple project advice

You might consider a clear finish. Something to protect the wood. It doesn't take much to leave smudges or stains on bare wood like that. Maybe a semi-gloss poly, shellac, or even a good coat of wax.

Re: Upgrading a 500 (1985)

A couple of things to remember: the 510 table will not fit in the 500 carriage, so you will need the 510 carriage as well. Also, there is an aluminum gauge for setting the 520 rails, which is handy to have.

Re: Band saw guide bearings

There are known problems with the set screw in the motor pulley loosening, and allowing the pulley to slip on the motor shaft. If this is your situation, consider using some Loctite on the set screw before tightening it.

Re: Shopsmith customer service email problem

A thought about table height (mentioned in the download) https://christopherschwarz.substack.com/p/the-tyranny-of-tables Excerpt: Almost every modern dining is 30" (760mm) tall. And almost every modern chair has a seat that is 18" (457mm) off the floor. That 12" of difference allows ...

Re: Shopsmith Mark 5 What When and Where
