Re: Tired of Being Ignored
My thanks to those of you who provided input. They provided me with a reason to re-think my attitude towards the woodworking magazines and realize what's happening. I know and appreciate the capabilities of my Shopsmith machines. I have a 510 purchased in 1984 that has been upgraded over the years t...

Tired of Being Ignored
As a long time Shopsmith owner ( I purchased my Mark V in 1984), I am tired of the woodworking magazines ignoring this machine and its capabilities. I am considering writing, to a few of the magazine editors, a note such as the following: "I don’t understand why your magazine completely ignores...

Re: Shop Deputy Length
Thanks for the input. The 34" tubes are the cut offs from a shorty that I had. I'm tight on space in my shop. (So, who isn't?) I converted the shorty to a dedicated drill press by cutting 9 1/2" off the tubes and using full length way tubes that I had. I'd rather not go to the 34" len...

Shop Deputy Length
I am ready to put together my sanding station shop deputy. Occasionally I may replace the belt sander with my band saw. I'll be cutting down 34 inch tubes. Since I am not cutting a tube in half, do I cut them to the 26 inch or should I go a little bit longer? Would having a bit more room make set-up...

Re: Recommendations for my shop
David, Thanks for the reply as I needed the reinforcement of my next steps. I've attached a copy of my floor plan and a couple of photos of my messy shop. It really needs cleaning. 244 Garage Shop v9.pdf IMG_2232.jpg SS.jpg IMG_2234.jpg In the upper right of floor plan, I plan to put the Shop Deputy...

Recommendations for my shop
I've moved into a townhouse with a one car garage which is for my woodshop plus some household/kitchen storage. The space for the shop is just under 200 sq. ft. The space is tight in the shop with tools, workbench, cabinets, etc. I have a 1985 Mark V (originally was 510) with all the upgrades to equ...

Re: Bowl Finish Problem
Here are the pictures. Topside of bowl picture doesn't have a crack but a piece of lint on bowl. Hope this a clearer picture of what I have.
Also, I used regular Clorox bleach.

Re: Bowl Finish Problem
Pictures didn't get attached as the files were too large. I need to figure how to shrink the file size and will repost.

Bowl Finish Problem
A friend asked me to restore a wooden fruit bowl. I believe it is walnut. The finish was worn off in areas and there were some black spots. (See attachments) Initially, I tried just cleaning the bowl by scrubbing with a paste made from baking soda. It cleaned up the bowl but still had uneven colorin...

Water in the Shop
Moving to a new place and for the first time I will not have water available in the shop. The nearest water is in the kitchen and the boss doesn't want me in there cleaning up. Also, no hose bib nearby. Normally I use water for washing hands, sharpening, cleaning brushes, etc. For those of you who h...
