Got my first one about 6 weeks ago and, the second one two weeks ago. Wife is scheduled for her second one Thursday. No negative effects with either of mine. None for the wife's first one. Hope the second one is just as easy.

If it's sharp I'm skeered of it. If it's sharp and spins, I'm terrified! May be an over statement, but I have had my share of blood letting episodes, resulting in an abundance of caution.

Nearly all my lumber is rough cut without a true flat face. I use regular table salt. Don't need much and it disolves. I'm not a turner but, it shouldnt affect your tooling.
