I too considered "snap together" tiles but the high cost concerned me with all the rest of the re-modeling going on here in Gainesville. Last summer, in my shop in the U.P. I used Rustoleum's two part epoxy coating. It took two gallons at a cost of about $100 to do a little over 500 sq ft....

Back in 1962. I was a senior ME student at Purdue and in the dead of Winter I drove an old "55 Buick without heat from W. Lafayette to Waukeegan IL for a job interview with Outboard Marine Corp. I entered their lobby early at about 7:30 AM and while waiting, I occupied myself by inspecting some...

This past week-end I insulated my 7'x16' garage door, cutting and glueing 1" thick foamboard insulation into each panel. Today I put vinyl strip weather seal on the outside of the garage door to seal off the gaps. I started this fall with a 2 car car-port that had not been completed into an enc...

Last year I had four Eastern White Pine trees fall in a storm. I cut them into 100 inch logs and called in a guy who has a Woodmizer. This is a large horizontal bandsaw machine that enables you to cut boards in virtually any thickness you want. A couple of tips; Put a couple of shipping pallets or u...

The marketing arrangement with Lowes is not working out. There are a lot of reasons for this; 1. In spite of Lowe's TV ads, they have a lot of employee turnover and it's rare to find anyone in the tool department who really knows woodworking. 2. They have no Shopsmith displays, pictures, or literatu...

Getting back to what "we" can do....................... Increasing sales through "word of mouth" can be very effective if enough of us participate. We all have friends and relatives who perhaps know that we have a Shopsmith - but have never seen it or seen it in operation. Why no...

Six years ago I used my MK V mounted planer to surface a fair amount of hard maple. I think the speed was somewhere up around "S", pretty fast - and a heavy load. The top of the housing just above the shaft got too hot to touch. Not long after that my control sheave bearing failed. Whether...

Dusty: You are absolutely correct. A few years ago I inherited a Rhobi radial arm saw. After a lot of searching on the web and phone calls I finally reached someone who could send me a manual. They charged me $10 and informed me that parts were no longer available for this not really so old saw. Now...

Mike: What a coincidence! Yesterday I pulled my Shopsmith sharpener off the shelf and then looked in vain for the manual. I called Shopsmith's customer service, not expecting much since this sharpener was at least 20 years old and has been long discontinued. Much to my surprise, the customer service...

It appears to me that the key to the turn-a round plan is to increase sales. My old boss used to say, " The best place to look for increased sales is with your present customers". That being said, there are a lot of guys on this forum with older machines that could be upgraded - and probab...
